Course Description
This course is a continuation of writing skills developed during the first three years of English. Students who plan on attending college are encouraged to take this one-semester elective, since the course develops the student’s writing ability to a level of independent capability.
This course is designed to be a challenging and enlightening class to help advance a student’s previous writing skills. Students are encouraged to be creative, energetic, and persistent. This class will make students aware of different forms of expository writing and allow practice in using these forms. A heavy emphasis is placed on applying logical thinking skills in writing and using correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary. The revision process will also be a focus of this class.
Each unit may include a grammar lesson, a brief lecture or discussion defining the type of paper assigned, sample papers to be analyzed, group pre-writing activities, rough draft writing sessions, peer-evaluation, one-on-one teacher conferences, and revisions.
Remember, writing is not a task to be completed; it is a continual process. Never be satisfied and always aim for improvement. That’s why we’re here. Most importantly, don’t be afraid to ask others or me for help.
